Schedule: 7:30am-4:30am Monday-Friday

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Early Learning Center Director, the Early Learning Center Site Director or the Preschool Coordinator, these positions will assist the ELC Lead Teachers and the KinderKamp Lead Teachers in implementing activities for an assigned group of children.

Required Education, Certifications, Experience:
1. At least 18 years old
2. High School Diploma or GED
3. An Associate's Degree or higher in a directly related field OR
4. A Current Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential
    • We will allow you 18 months to complete this if you do not have it upon hire
Required Within a Specific Time Frame:
1. Within 3 months of hire: 12 hours of basic childcare training through Childcare Resource and Referral
2. Within 6 months of hire: First Aid Certification
3. Within 6 months of hire: CPR/AED Certification for Adult, Child, and Infant
4. Within 1 year of hire: Listen First training
If working towards the CDA:
1. Within 3 months of hire: Signed up for the CDA Modules
2. Within 1 year of hire: Completion of the CDA Requirements
3. Within 18 months of hire: CDA Certification

Position Specific Competencies:
1. Engages in positive staff-child interaction
2. Assists in taking the children on field trips as assigned. Dresses and swims with children if the trip involves swimming
3. Assists in promotes a healthy, emotional, social, intellectual and physical environment of each child
4. Assists in serving meals in a family style setting and in developing good nutritional habits
5. Assists in maintaining a physical environment that is clean, neatly organized and conforms to governmental and agency
    standards for the physical safety and well-being of the children and adults who use the center, assists in taking responsibility for
    the upkeep of all of the equipment and materials, encourages children's participation in the upkeep of these materials.
6. Plans and executes developmentally appropriate experience using a variety of materials in the field of art, math, music,  
    science and literature, posts daily schedules and curriculum in the classroom
7. Must be prepared to justify the presentation of a particular environment, materials, or activity in terms of appropriateness
8. Relates to parents positively when approached, referring problematic questions or situations to the ELC Lead Teacher or
    KinderKamp Lead Teacher as needed
9. Assumes responsibility for maintaining a level of knowledge in child development through reading, workshops, conferences,   
    college courses and in-service training
10. Assists the ELC Lead Teacher and KinderKamp Lead Teacher as needed and maintains good communication
11. May be asked to help plan activities and give input on curriculum ideas, which would promote the healthy emotional social 
     intellectual and physical development of each child
12. Participates in preparing for and attending special events, open houses and parent involvement activities as scheduled; attends
      other YMCA functions as necessary

1. Is on time and present for scheduled shift; when unable to work scheduled shift – informs supervisor per policy
2. Attends mandatory departmental meetings and training sessions as required
3. Maintains a neat and clean work area, free of hazards
4. Follows YMCA policies and departmental procedures
5. Follows all emergency and safety procedures
6. Wears name tag at all times
7. Other duties upon request by immediate supervisor

Blood Exposure:
Category 2: This position occasionally performs duties that result in exposure to "Fluids at Risk for Transmission" or this person may render some medical assistance as part of their position in an emergency on limited occasions. Bloodborne Pathogens training is required but the Hepatitis B vaccination will not be offered.
